Discover the lake

Feel the cool breeze from the lake, play in the sand, enjoy some sports or simply soak up the sun...

The Markkleeberger lake with a water surface of approx 250 ha is constantly developing into a more popular destination for water sportsmen and amateur sportsmen. The focal point for sport and tourism is the Auenhain inlet, where the whitewater courses of the whitewater park and the holiday park "Seepark Auenhain" invite you to while away the hours. Over the coming years other projects will be realized step by step.

We welcome you to discover Leipzig New Lakeland!

Take a few minutes to take in the landscape - on foot, by bike or using inline skates along the 9.2 km path around the lake and on the paths branching off. There is nothing more pleasant than experiencing the Markkleeberger lake. Sitting areas and pick-nick tables enable you to consciously enjoy the landscape.

The Crostewitzer Höhe rises peacefully above the lake to the South with a fantastic view of Leipzig in the distance. On the open meadows you can watch bisons grazing.

Signs from the open-cast mining days can still be seen and not all areas are accessible: the former inner burden tips of the opencast-mining sites overgrown with vegetation on the south shore look like natural undulating hills. Open landscapes are interspersed with wooded areas, hidden water bodies and meadows.

Follow the suggestions for walks provided by the town of Markkleeberg to experience the Markkleeberger lake 1. Lago Markkiore: Walk 13.3 km"
und 2. Goethes Weg: Walk 11.9 km"
